Full-frame power in a compact rig for run-and-gun creators.

Welcome back to Carl Tomich Tech Reviews, where we don’t just unbox gear—we build battle-ready camera rigs from scratch. Today, we’re diving deep into my custom Sony A7CII setup—a camera that punches way above its weight, especially when modded out with the right gear.
While most folks would reach for the FX30 for pro video shoots (and don’t get me wrong, it’s a beast), I’ve deliberately chosen to build out my A7C Mark II instead. Why? Because this little hybrid monster brings full-frame power, incredible stabilization, and ridiculous versatility—all in a travel-friendly body.
At its core, the Sony A7CII is a compact full-frame mirrorless camera that combines pro-level image quality with a lightweight, minimalist form factor. It’s built for creators who want to travel light without sacrificing performance.

For run-and-gun shoots, documentary work, or low-light environments—the A7CII’s full-frame sensor and stabilization just win. It gives me DSLR-level performance in a mirrorless body, and when fully rigged, it holds its own on any set.
