Thinking about buying the DJI Flip drone? Maybe you're stuck choosing between the DJI Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro, or the new Flip model? In this brutally honest hands-on review, I break down everything you need to know before you hit that Buy Now button.
As someone who has flown everything from the DJI Spark to the Pro series, I can tell you exactly who the DJI Flip is for—and who should absolutely avoid it. Spoiler: it’s basically a stripped-down Mini 3/4 with fewer sensors and a toy-like feel, but there’s still some surprising upside—especially if you're a beginner drone pilot.
The Flip keeps the same 1/1.3" sensor used in the Mini 3 and Mini 4 Pro, so image quality is nearly identical. Where it cuts costs is in the body and sensors—no rear or upward avoidance and a plastic shell that feels more toy than tool. Flight time tops out at about 30 minutes and OcuSync transmission is limited to 8 km.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly drone with a good camera but fewer smart features, this might be just enough drone for you. But if you're after reliability, obstacle avoidance, and smoother flying, spend a little more—your future self will thank you.
